She's Crafty Sunday...DIY Personalized Lapboards

I love giving gifts...the thought behind them, the excitement on a person's face when they get it and the act of coming up with that one special thing.  I also love personalized things...my kids have been victims of monogrammed everything and labels containing their names on anything that can't be monogrammed.

When you have a 5-year old, you are a regular passenger on the birthday party train.  I usually don't know the child who is having the party other than through Vaughn's ramblings about someone being their BFF and worst enemy all in the span of a sentence.  But on the rare occasion that I do feel as though I know a kid or that my kid is good friends with a kid, I really want to try to do something special for birthday gifts.

Enter the lapboard...a way to combine my love of all things personalized and do something thoughtful for Vaughn's little friends.  Also, it gives me an outlet, albeit small, for my creative juices to flow (and it doesn't take up a ton of space that I currently do not have because I do not have a craft area in my home).  Here are a couple of lapboards I made recently, one for Vaughn and one for her sweet little friend, Emily, from preschool.

If you have any creative ability, a Michael's and a few paint pens, you can do this...totally easy!   This is a great gift for a school aged child, they can use it for homework, other artsy stuff and eating if you have a sick kiddo or are allowing the special treat of eating outside of the kitchen.

In case you haven't noticed, I am  in a total identity crisis with this blog, I'm not sure what I want my focus to be or what to write about (on the rare occasion that I do blog).  After thinking about it, I think I am going to keep it random until it comes to me, afterall, this blog is about being "The EveryMom" - which means I am a little bit of everything in every way to a lot of different people, so why shouldn't my blog capture that very thing?  So, stay tuned for more random posts about many random things...
